PMI completed an impressive expansion October 1, 2013 designed to increase efficiency and maintain the potential for growth at PMI. We were able to extend and re-position four of our press lines to become more efficient, make room for our new Cut-To-Length Line and add fabrication space. PMI President Chris Conard explains the need for the expansion, “We had been renting 35,000 square feet of space. This was not the optimal use of resources so we re-invested profits from many strong years into more manufacturing and storage space.”
The expansion was designed with lean concepts in mind. PMI Facilities Manager Erik Larson said, "Lean concepts for the new press layout improve material flow and create easier access to the warehouse. The result is improved efficiency.”
The process of expansion was complex. The addition was a large project which included excavating the site, removing a hill and trees, tearing down the maintenance shop and creating a temporary one. The staff at PMI adapted to changing conditions while continuing to keep customers’ needs the top priority.
PMI has experienced growth in 2013 and continues to prepare for future growth. In 2013, the PMI facility grew from 102,775 square feet to 130,225 square feet, which is an increase of over 25%. As with past PMI expansions, Larson stated, “This addition was built with capabilities of expanding in the future.” Stay tuned as PMI continues to invest and improve to provide the best value for customers!
